Manganous Oxide

Overview

Manganous oxide is a green powder that forms cubic rock-salt crystals.

It is paramagnetic at room temperature and is considered to have good biocompatibility.

Manganous oxide is used in many industries, including:

Agriculture:
As a fertilizer to provide plants with manganese, a micro-nutrient that helps with photosynthesis, respiration, and nitrogen assimilation

Ceramics:
To produce brown, black, and violet colors, as well as metallic surfaces in glazes

Batteries:
As a precursor for manganese-containing cathode materials, like lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide

Semiconductors:
For fabricating thin-film transistors and other electronic devices

Biomedical research:
For developing contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
